Just upgraded like a minute ago. I don’t even recognize it. Haven’t been through everything yet. But MAN is the backend pretty!
Web Success Diva (Maria) is promising a lot of info on the new features, so I’m going to let her tear through this thing and train you guys up on it.
I just want to play!
Notes: My WP Sticky plugin and Simple Tags plugin both broke in this upgrade. I don’t think I had any sticky posts, so that one can go. And I think I was using the native tagging anyway, so if my old tags I may have used Simple Tags on still hold, that one can go too.
Thesis Users: Check out Andrew Daum’s link below for a quick fix for the formatting problem for Thesis Design Options. Just used that fix and it restored the Java and formatting for your Thesis design pages.

Hi-
I don’t know if you use the PingPressFM plugin in order to ping http://ping.fm... Wow, lot’s of pings…
Anyway, I found that the upgrade deactivated the trigger, meaning, when you post, it won’t ping. All you have to do is reactivate the trigger.

What did it do to your Thesis admin panels?
Heard it messed them up… only reason I’ve not upgraded.

It took them out of 3 column and made it one long ugly column. I’m sure they’ll get an upgrade out at Thesis for this. That’s damn ugly!
Hi, this is unrelated… actually, well, it’s related to the gravatar plugin.
I notice my avatar doesn’t show up. Are you pulling from somewhere else besides MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog?

I’m pulling from Gravatar and then in Discussion settings using the Wavatar substitute for people who aren’t using Gravatar.
Ahhh–
I have a gravatar account. I had a different email address associated. Should be fixed now. Thanks for reminding me. I (as I’m sure everyone else) have a trillion accounts everywhere, so I forget to update some of them.

WP Sticky plugin is not needed anymore anyway.. . WordPress 2.7 has the Sticky post option. Go to “Posts” and in Quick Edit mark “Make this post sticky”.

Here ya go Jack… in case you have not seen the fix for the Thesis CP’s.
Upgraded one of my blogs to 2.7 — the code he gives (Rick) to add to your custom php file fixed it all for me. All nice and pretty again.

Thanks man! You’re saving lives and you should be proud!
Just now getting into WP from using Blogger and have a question: Is it necessary to upgrade your blog every time WP releases a new one?
I’m not against a major security patch or correcting a coding flaw, but always wondering if I need to hire someone to ‘fix’ my blog instead of running my business seems a bit much.
Thought I’d ask
@Georjina – you should try really hard to get on the latest Wordpress. From 2.7 on you won’t have to do a hard install again. Just press a button and the system will upgrade itself. (Haven’t done that yet, but that’s what they say!)
Upgrades usually mean security fixes, etc. and you should do them as soon as new ones come out. This upgrade was a massive one as far as changes though and you’re going to love it!
I haven’t really loved the latest changes that they have made to Wordpress, but it looks like they have made the interface more functional as well as better looking. Guess I will go install it and kick the tires a bit.

The WordPress Automatic Upgrade plugin is cool. It makes upgrading WordPress blogs effortless. The plugin does everything including backing up files, deactivating plugins, downloading the latest version of WordPress, upgrading all the files, reactivating the plugins and cleaning up the files.
One Click Plugin Updater helps me update all the plugins with a single click.

Whoa, Jack… this looks awesome!
I’m NEVER the first one to upgrade. I always feel like I am the guinea pig for finding the bugs…lol!
But THIS upgrade looks fantastic and I can’t wait to use it.
Thanks!

I’m very satisfied with this upgrade. I can’t remember, I think maybe a couple of releases ago, for some reason, it didn’t reactivate my plugins. That’s kind of a pain, but no biggie.
Has anyone encountered plugins that are now obsolete because they’ve now build in the functionality?

wp sticky is no longer needed
any plugins that helped you to reply or work with comments are unnecessary now – WP finally got this nailed
Popularity Contest throws a fatal error now – wish I could get that back
Any tagging plugins you might be using are no longer needed – WP native tagging rocks
There are surely more but those are the ones I noticed.
