Bloggers are like sharks. We die if we stop swimming. We are a perpetual motion machine. Or we should be if we want all the traffic, links, and rankings possible for our blogs.
The gadget bloggers post anywhere from 10-50 times per day. (10-20 if they do it themselves and up to 50 or more if they have staff or guest writers)
Gadget blogs have enough potential content to publish that much and even more on a daily basis. But what about you?
Can you figure out how to “atomize” your content so that you can post more than once per day? That, and still be interesting and cover topics your market is really interested in?
More words = more traffic!
Every post you make is another connection with potential readers. Each blog post you make is another connection to search engines who want to rank you, or anyone, for providing timely information on hot topics.
Every post is another opportunity to hit home with an influential fellow blogger on a topic they care about. Write a good one, and they will link to it. Link building is far easier to do with frequent, good content than it is going out and begging for links.
How to Get More Posts
- Guest bloggers: let people know you take guest blogger posts. Put out a feeler in a post or two and remind readers you welcome their submissions. They don’t know if you don’t tell them – often!
- Hire a staff writer: If you have enough income from the blog, re-invest it in a dedicated writer. Sonia Simone has done huge wonders for CopyBlogger.com!
- Run a writing contest: accept post submissions by your readers and other bloggers and have the whole readership vote on the best stuff. Winner takes home whatever you can dig up for prizes. Many product owners will gladly give away product if they get exposure. None of this has to cost any money at all and has proven to be a great success. Learn about contests from Problogger.
Find More To Talk About
Use my Information Overlord system to find more conversations and news in your niche to report on and riff off of. There’s likely far more going on in your niche than one post per day can cover. Take advantage of automation and smart collection of crucial feeds and info by using FriendFeed and Google Reader attached to Feedly to find more stuff to talk about. Your readers, and the engines, will LOVE you for it!
Remember The Readers!
Your readership is not of one mind. If I do a post about list building one day, that’s only going to appeal to the portion of my readership that is working on or interested in that topic at the time. What about all the others?
The thing is, you can’t post too much. The restricting factor is time. You only have so much. So get creative. Get help. Find a way to post to your blog more often while keeping the quality up. The traffic and rankings are well worth the effort. And your readers will become conditioned to visit more often to see what’s new.
What other ideas come to mind when you think of getting more posts on your blog?
