Top 21: The Best Article Directory List

Article directories are a dime a dozen. If you are going to do it the hard way, meaning you’d rather submit one at a time and not use the best article syndication service I have ever used, then focus on submitting your articles to the top 21 article directories below.

You won’t benefit from the long tail effect of submitting to the other article directories available, but you will at least hit the big ones with the highest Alexa and Google rankings.

  1. EzineArticles -The big daddy of article directories.  If you could only choose one place to submit your articles, this would be a good choice. PR6
  2. Submit Your Article -This started as an article submission service, but has also turned into a high-quality article directory over the years.  PR4
  3. Suite101 – Another monstrous article site.  PR7
  4. Helium – An up-to-date article site.  PR6
  5. ArticleDashboard -Another staple in article directories.  PR5
  6. ArticleBase -This article directory has grown to a PR6 with lots of content and praise from article syndication experts.
  7. GoArticles -This one claims to be the largest, but I’m pretty sure #1, #3, and #4 give it a run for it’s money.  PR4
  8. WebProNews -You have to be selected to get into this one but it’s well worth the trouble.  Old and respected.  PR6
  9. SearchWarp -Free to submit and serves a lot of articles.  PR5
  10. Buzzle -A strong article directory.  PR6
  11. Isnare -Also a submission service, iSnare is another strong article directory at PR6.
  12. American Chronicle -Actually part of a network of article sites.  PR6
  13. ArticleCity -Pretty much your standard article directory.  PR5
  14. IdeaMarketers -A giant, this is much more than a simple article directory.  It is a newsletter builder and management system as well as a “home base” for authors.  PR5
  15. Site Reference -This is a content portal with article submission built-in.  PR5
  16. Article Alley -A standard article directory.  PR5
  17. TheWhir -Another strong article site.  PR6
  18. Articles Factory -Mid-level article site.  PR4
  19. SelfGrowth -Won’t find this one in auto-submission software.  Must become an “expert” first to then get access to submit articles.  PR6
  20. Amazines -Pretty standard.  Nothing fancy here.  PR3
  21. Article Snatch – It’s pretty popular, but is a “no-follow” directory.  PR5

    Cool list. Article marketer is another one which I found to be the very cost effective and be a effective time saver, but they the approval process can drive you nuts! Last time I checked they had a huge list of article directories they syndicated to but to be honest haven’t used these sites for a long time so don’t know how much value they off now.

    A good suggestion would be to try and setup Google Alerts on each article you submit to any number of directories. Then when you find out which sites pick up your article, you can contact them and offer them something of value, such as a brand new unique article. This will benefit both sides as it is unique content so will rank better for him and hopefully allow you to change the anchor text you have in the original article. This is good as you can target different keywords and increase your exposure. Anyway, worth a go…

Since then we have received over 18000 article submissions by 2600 registered authors. Just recently we were promoted to a Google Page Rank 2, and traffic is improving daily.     That is a great list! E ver since starting a directory several months ago I get 100 – 200 submissions a day. It is obvious that there is a market out there also for niche directories.

    Jack,what do you think about just posting articles to ezinearticles.com only, then publishing it at social content sites like hubpages and squidoo, with the content re-hashed to avoid dupe content?

    It seems like a waste of time anymore to post the same article in multiple directories. I’d love to get your feedback on that.

    Yeah the best way to approach where you put your articles is just like where you choose to comment: places that have readers. Google likes those places more anyway, so the SEO and the direct traffic get covered at the same time.

    This is a good list. I personally like PopularArticles.com to submit to also. They’ve got a clean design, a good brand, and you can tell their editors do a pretty good job only accepting well-written articles (for the most part). No bias here. Just like that site… YMMV.

    Excellent list you have on Article Directories. Never seems to fail. Ezine Articles is always at the top. I’m just curious though… Have you ever tried to implement Article Marketing on Qassia or Google’s Knols? If so, how have they worked out for you?

      Dennis – I’ve never done either in a serious, scientific way. Of the two, it would seem Knols would be more important. But I don’t have any solid data on it. Would be interested to hear if someone really did some good tracking and work there what their results have been.

    Wow this looks really cool. Sorry for the short comment, as I am on my mobile at the moment. I do have a question for you. Is there a way to know when one of these directories publishes fresh articles? Perhaps you already mentioned that. I was pretty quick to scan the post.

    One thing that concerns me about posting articles is the dup content factor. New articles if you can grab them before anyone else does would be great. Landing the first copy index in Google would be even better.

    I’ve been thinking about using Submit Your Article for a while. Is there one clear thing it does better then all other mass-submission tools? You’ve sure given it a strong endorsement.

      I don’t believe in any of the other tools I had previously used to syndicate. I haven’t used them all, but am never moved to because of SYA’s coverage, reliability, and long standing in article syndication as the first and much respected syndication provider. I just like it best because it works best among other systems, most of which came after SYA was already on the scene. It does one thing very well: gets your articles out all the time, reliably, without fail.

    I just want to clarify because i have been thinking of SYA for a while and i heard a lot of good things about it. Aside from using SYA you also manually submit to those 21 directories? Do you spin your article before submission to this article directories? or do you submit the original articles?

      Jennifer – I sometimes spin, sometimes not. And never notice a difference in traffic either way. You’d need to do thousands of articles to say definitively, which the owners of all kinds of spinner software haven’t probably even done themselves. I also got too busy to manually submit except for networks I belong to that I know are going to be beneficial. So I can’t help there other than to say if they are manual, most people won’t submit and therefore, the quality of articles and traffic SHOULD be better. Although you’d have to tell that to EzineArticles.com which beats all article directories hands-down, even with auto submission included.

I’ve currently been using EzineArticles and GoArticles and Article Dashboard and am very happy so far with the results they are bringing… Have you ever heard of a service called Linkvana? I’ve been told that it might be the way to go in regard to getting high quality backlinks.

Registration process & submit process work fast and it's definitely better than most of the article directories on which i made research work.
