Top 21: The Best Article Directory List

Article directories are a dime a dozen. If you are going to do it the hard way, meaning you’d rather submit one at a time and not use the best article syndication service I have ever used, then focus on submitting your articles to the top 21 article directories below.

You won’t benefit from the long tail effect of submitting to the other article directories available, but you will at least hit the big ones with the highest Alexa and Google rankings.

  1. EzineArticles -The big daddy of article directories.  If you could only choose one place to submit your articles, this would be a good choice. PR6
  2. Submit Your Article -This started as an article submission service, but has also turned into a high-quality article directory over the years.  PR4
  3. Suite101 – Another monstrous article site.  PR7
  4. Helium – An up-to-date article site.  PR6
  5. ArticleDashboard -Another staple in article directories.  PR5
  6. ArticleBase -This article directory has grown to a PR6 with lots of content and praise from article syndication experts.
  7. GoArticles -This one claims to be the largest, but I’m pretty sure #1, #3, and #4 give it a run for it’s money.  PR4
  8. WebProNews -You have to be selected to get into this one but it’s well worth the trouble.  Old and respected.  PR6
  9. SearchWarp -Free to submit and serves a lot of articles.  PR5
  10. Buzzle -A strong article directory.  PR6
  11. Isnare -Also a submission service, iSnare is another strong article directory at PR6.
  12. American Chronicle -Actually part of a network of article sites.  PR6
  13. ArticleCity -Pretty much your standard article directory.  PR5
  14. IdeaMarketers -A giant, this is much more than a simple article directory.  It is a newsletter builder and management system as well as a “home base” for authors.  PR5
  15. Site Reference -This is a content portal with article submission built-in.  PR5
  16. Article Alley -A standard article directory.  PR5
  17. TheWhir -Another strong article site.  PR6
  18. Articles Factory -Mid-level article site.  PR4
  19. SelfGrowth -Won’t find this one in auto-submission software.  Must become an “expert” first to then get access to submit articles.  PR6
  20. Amazines -Pretty standard.  Nothing fancy here.  PR3
  21. Article Snatch – It’s pretty popular, but is a “no-follow” directory.  PR5

    Hi Jack

    good sites.

  • http://www.wordpressblogservice.com/wbsmagazine Sushie @ WBS Magazine

Thanks for this list of article directories! Ezine is the best one for me even if today there are some problems with it…

  • http://tvyamgo.wordpress.com/ Live TV stream

As an article directory http://www.talkinmince.com, my main motivation was for research, now its growing at a rate that i can not stop it, The site now has over 69000 pages indexed in google, and other search engines, its not about duplicate content, as google and other major search engines are looking for legitimate sites, that are providing the right search term, so they service there searchers, bare in mind that the template arounbd your site also changes the way google and other view the total content.

I was always scared about the repocutions, but joining places like yahoo directoy etc show google/msn/and yahoo that your a legitimate business. So dont be to worried about duplicate content, its how you service the customers the engines will reward you for servicing the correct content and looking after the readers.

  • James

Add one more to your list http://isearchquest.com/articles, it’s a fast approval article directory.

  • http://www.mangorevolution.com Derrick@Link Building Service

Article Dashboard has taken forever lately to accept articles. I’ve stopped submitting there. I like sooperarticles more than most on this list. I’ve gotten good results there. As much as you can from one article site, I guess.

  • http://www.ranktrafficsales.com [email protected]

Here’s a good one I found. http://www.Outofstress.com, this is a PR5 article directory mainly focusing on health articles, but they also have many other categories.

  • http://www.hgh.info/ Joel@hgh

Jack, Just thought to give you updates. iSnare is no longer accepting free submissions for links. They allow free content without links. There are some good second tier directories like articletrader, easyarticles etc.. too. Ezine, AC and Buzzle are my favorite ones.

  • http://washingtondccarrental.net/ washington dc car rental

another gift for the great post. you all should try blog.co.uk it has a very fast indexing and google like it very much.

  • http://teachyourselfspanisheasy.org Lucas@teach yourself spanish

Wow! This is definitely getting bookmarked. Though it seems everyone uses EzineArticles as their main area of focus when it comes to article marketing, I’m not entirely sure why that is, it’s so crowded on their with everyone writing on the same topics, it’s hard to be original. Though I suppose one shouldn’t be discouraged when submitting articles provided you’ve got the right information on hand for the job.

  • Justin

Helium and articlebase and nofollowed too. I am not sure if helium even allows links within articles. Guess they allow links in the profile. Here’s another site worth including in your list: Outofstress.com this is a PR5 article directory and offers direct links from within the article as well as from the signature. I always thought that links from within the article look more natural and carry more value.

  • http://www.articlesxpert.com/ Deepak@Free Article Directory

Great post!.. are they all dofollow?

    • http://www.jackhumphrey.com/ Jack Humphrey

Probably not – they all change a lot which is why I didn’t include that info. I’d have to update it all the time! :)

  • http://gndecbidar.org/ Dennis

    Hi Jack
Thanks for the additional link for Arcana Web as well as all the links for the highest Alexa and Google ranking links in one source area. SearchWarp seems to have changed there submission terms to the worse in my option but there are many more excellent directories.

    Cheers

Yup my favorite is enzine articles too. My selection runs in corelation with yours… Good post :)

  • http://www.copperbasin.com New Houses In North Idaho

Yes, Ezinearticles is probably one of the popular sites. Most people prefer to use it, I’m not sure why though.

  • yuzecheng

    Any European top21?

  • http://www.copperbasin.com Wayne

For me, article base is the most professional article directory. It has a great interface, not like ezine which looks like old school.

  • http://bestpaiddirectories.com/ Directory List

Links from directories may matter somewhat, but the best way to get links is to post unique quality content often. And be sure to post only on high PR sites.
Anyways, thanks for this fantastic list.

  • http://www.seorankingexpert.com Preeti

Thanks Jack for such nice list. I’m great fan of Ezine Articles and ArticleBase…

  • http://www.jessebluff-spokane.com New Houses For Sale In Spokane

I’ve seen articles with links from goarticles, suite101, ezinearticles and articlebase when I do searches in Google. I guess their writers cover a wide range of topics that’s why I see them a lot.

  • http://www.boniti.com janet@stone tiles

I would rather use your system because I honestly don’t have the time to mess around looking for heaps of places to submit one article to. Some people would rather take their time and do that and I can understand that but at some point it must get a bit tedious. I’d prefer the quick way.

  • http://articlejug.com Matt

Is no-follow a no-no for seo purposes? Most article directories that didn’t have nofollow added, now have. But is linkbuilding using even these article directories worthwhile – or is it a pointless exercise and we should be looking for traffic from these sites instead?

    • http://www.jackhumphrey.com/ Jack Humphrey

It certainly makes the article syndication game about what it should have been all along: direct traffic. Now that many of them are no-follow, the content quality should pick up when the spammers give up and people can reliably use article directories for content on their own sites. That’s where the traffic is and that’s where the really valuable links come in – getting picked up and used on someone’s site is the ultimate goal of article syndication to directories IMO.

  • http://www.play-it-forward.org Rayner@Article Directory

I use http://www.play-it-forward.org regularly, it is a PR3 and best is rhe articles are approved in few hours and indexed in minutes after approval as the articles are displayed in the homepage for few hours, in my opinion that is how an article directory should be rather than the approved articles going into archives immediately without any knowledge to search engines.

  • http://www.abicana.com Knut Holt

Some of the web’s most primitive and small article directories, based on WordPress have a remarkably high clickthroughrate to my web-site.

Unfortunately Google is also fond of some really bad crap calling themselves article directories.

Still ezinearticles.com have a high status in my opinion.

  • http://www.articleslash.net/ George@Article Directory

    Thanks Jack!
    @Wayne articlebase use “nofollow”!

    ArticleSlash(http://www.articleslash.net) is “dofollow”, PageRank 5 :)

I don’t know on what basis you have serialize them ………. but goarticles should be on 3 position in case of popularity!

Ezine artices and isnare are two pillars of article distibution on the web and I use them for my clients as well as my own articles. I also have my own self-published article directories: http://www.a1-articledirecotry.com and http://www.lifeweightloss.com which you can also submit to.

I found a new article directory on http://www.irelandireland.com

    Content has to be
    * unique and
    * Ireland related

Include one link per article. Link can also be on top!

    Hope it’s useful for you.

    Hey Jack,

Thanks for the list of article directories.. I’ve currently been using EzineArticles and GoArticles and Article Dashboard and am very happy so far with the results they are bringing… Have you ever heard of a service called Linkvana? I’ve been told that it might be the way to go in regard to getting high quality backlinks.

    • http://www.fridaytrafficreport.com JackHumphrey

Have heard of them, not used them though.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WBMWQUAGCJKKMLM2NISMFXM7VI Shoaib

Can I submit the same article in various article directory without spinning?

    • http://www.fridaytrafficreport.com JackHumphrey

@Shoaib – yes you can. Even with spinning you won’t get the same type of content more than once in the top 10 very easily for moderately competitive keywords.

  • http://www.sortshots.com/ andykeating

Great selected list…Many of us might be using these article directories only…

Thanks!… I was wondering if submitting the same article would mean duplicate content on various sites and then devalue the work I’ve done in writing and submitting.

  • http://www.nitch.co.za Derek Jansen

If there’s one directory to publish on its EzineArticles. Alternatively, if you’ve got the budget, SYA’s service is top notch.
