Top 142 Social Marketing Blogs on the Web

by Jack Humphrey on Jul 24

<a href=blogging software” width=”191″ height=”191″ />Below is the most complete list I’ve ever seen of the top social marketing blogs.

We created it because it is a list that is much needed by marketers who want to get great news, opinions, and insights by credible, popular bloggers and experts in social marketing.

If you could put a dollar value on the information shared across all these sites it would impossible for most people to afford. Luckily, you can access all these sites and keep up on social marketing trends and news for free.

The sites are not ranked in any particular order, nor did I come up with a complicated algorithm to sort and sift them into any order of importance. They all have something to share and they are all popular sites with their own following, large and small.

Enjoy this big resource!

Social Marketing Blogs

Looking for a social marketing blog? The following is a list of 142 of the top social marketing blogs on the web right now. Consider this a digital library of social media, marketing how-to, social news sites, and communities.

    Jack,

Thanks for the mention. One thought: Lots of people are using the term “social marketing”, but that’s a term that’s been in use for decades. It means applying marketing principles to address social issues.

What I think all of us on the list do is social media marketing. It’s longer to say, and a bit clunky, but we can’t use a term that’s so well established.

  • http://www.jackhumphrey.com/cd Jack Humphrey

    Jim,

I noticed in the beginning that social marketing was really big in the engines for sites that deal with social issues. I thought then about staying away from that established use of the term and started mixing in “media” a lot.

But today there are two definitions or uses of the term that are established and it seems Google is doing ok semantically understanding what you’re after.

It’s harder to break the top 10 for any keyword phrase that has multiple popular meanings, so you’re right about carving out newer phrases and owning them too, such as social media marketing. Which more accurately describes what we all do.

  • http://www.vacationdreamstravel.com/wordpress/ Tim Stark

    Jack,

Ingenious tactic with the list! I have seen several other people following suit and am thinking of doing the same for our website niche.

I just had a question about whether you did a trackback on all 142 websites when you posted it into WordPress or if not, how were the people on the list notified that this list existed and that they were on it?

My list is up to about 82 and I now have an enormous respect for whomever did the entire 142 on your list as this is a lot of work if you go through and verify each site and really do it right!

    -Tim Stark, Webmaster

Tim Stark’s last blog post..Review of the Artist Point Restaurant – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

  • http://www.jackhumphrey.com/cd Jack Humphrey

    Tim,

Good webmasters/bloggers will know when someone links to them. 1) they’ll have the correct blogging platform that notifies them when someone links to them, 2) they will check their stats compulsively to see who is sending them traffic and check it out.

When someone puts together a random list just for the list’s sake, they won’t get participation and thanks. When you put together a list of well-thought-out selections of people who should know when they’ve been included in something like this and appreciate it, they’ll come back in droves to say thanks.

So an ordinary list of sites doesn’t cut it. You have to really think about who you include strategically. “The Best” is completely subjective. Are these 142 THE BEST? There’s no way to tell definitively. You can’t just look at the numbers and say “whomever is the best in the engines or has the most links or comments” is the determining factor.

The best are the people who will get into it with you after you’ve made the list. The best have to have good content, decent rankings, but they’ll also have the greatest potential to draw more attention TO YOUR LIST by participating, commenting, linking back, and understanding the spirit of the list in the blogosphere.

The perfect list of “best blogs” of any kind is the list that doesn’t even need a trackback to know that they’ve been linked. If they are paying attention to their traffic and links that closely, they are most likely excellent bloggers as well.
