Source of Great Blog Content Revealed

by Jack Humphrey on Apr 27

I’m done begging for guest posts!

The trick, it seems, is not to ask your readers for guest posts, but to go where article writers hang out and are prepared to send you great quality content as part of their business model.

It may sound hard to believe, but it seems you have to be a mega-blog to solicit and actually receive a good amount of writers to provide you with original or high quality content.  People like me, in the middle, really don’t get many solicited or unsolicited guest posts as many would assume.

So, still needing content, I started looking at Matt Callen’s solution.  Now, I didn’t look at it when he sent me the first email about it.  I thought it was yet another network full of content I couldn’t really use or that would not meet my standards for this blog.  A network that might be good for auto-bloggers, but not real blogs like mine with a rep to protect.

So it wasn’t until today that I took a look.  I’m sorry for doubting you Matt!

There are so many protections built into this free content service that you simply cannot go wrong by trying it out to get more great content for your blog on the topics you choose.  There is an option to auto post content that matches your criteria.  Um – make sure you turn that option off!

You need to review each and every recommended article yourself!  (That is, if you have a blog where the quality standards are hyper important.)

I’ve already gotten a new article to post today that is well done, something I’d write if I had the time, and it even had a YouTube video in it!

The best part is that Matt needs his big network to get even bigger.

It already boasts over 10,000 sites, which rocks.  But he rightfully wants as many sites participating in receiving content as possible.

Writing content for the network is going to get people a lot of links and traffic.

That’s the paid part.  But think about it this way:  since blogs like mine are in the network, it finally pays to change your article marketing efforts over to Matt’s network.  You’re going to get picked up by some serious blogs with lots of traffic and juice!

If you just want more content, like me, simply sign up for free and add your blog or any site that can accept content through an API, and you’ll be able to receive targeted, relevant content on virtually any topic you choose from a pool of thousands of writers.

Again, I can’t stress this enough, I would never recommend a content network without all the quality controls Callen has built into his.  I can’t take junk, re-hashed content on this blog.  Those kind of networks have never been of interest or use to me.  But now I have a source of guest content that I can trust and moderate and am anxious to see how much help I can now get with FTR and providing great content to my readers.

That’s great. But I hope not too many guest posts will be added here in the future as you have your own style and that’s why people keep coming back to your blog, to read what you’ve written.

@terry – no worries. I’ll always be the biggest mouth around these parts! :)

Hi Jack, I have been using this network for around 3 weeks and as long as the writer writes good quality articles then they will get good traffic and links from it. I have noticed a lot of poorly written content on there and highly aggressive sales pages if people cut down on that then the network would be a lot better. I only write good quality content for the network and keep the sales pitch if any down to a minimum, all my articles have been published enough times to warrant paying the fee and future subscriptions. It would be a good idea if Matt could share some stats on the sites publishing the content so we can see the quality of sites that are displaying our link.

@miks – we definitely need to help the writers figure out what is going to get picked up and what is not. All they have to do is take the time to write killer content and they’d get picked up by sites with the power to send them traffic and juice. I’m sure I will be turning down 90% of the stuff that lands in my box regardless.

@Eran – right on! I knew that message might bring someone out of the woodwork! I’m looking for pieces on social media sites, services, and places bloggers should be aware of as possible traffic sources. Short reviews on different new sites out there would be great – as many as you want to write. I can’t keep up with them by myself and Mashable.com is kicking my butt with their massive team of writers.

Jack how many articles should you put on a site per day. I heard you should not put to many is that right?

@Louis – Gizmodo puts up 40-50 new posts per day. Many full time bloggers do 5-10 per day. The more the better actually. If you are referring to how many links you should get from other places per day – that’s just a bad rumor. When something goes viral on the web it can get hundreds of links in just hours. Google doesn’t penalize that.
