Lang Adds Over 2500 Twitter Followers in 6 Days

by Jack Humphrey on May 19

A couple days ago I posted my chat with Chris Lang. If you haven’t listened yet, you should. The guy is really onto something big with Google social tools like Google Friend Connect, Reader, and YouTube. (Yes, YouTube is a full-blown, integrated social gadget now!)

Today Chris sends me this graph of his Twitter following from 5-12 through 5-18:

increase twitter following

It seems to me that Chris is on fire all around the social web.  I took his tip on increasing Twitter followers, and check out what’s happened to my numbers in the last week:

getting more twitter followers

Chris turned his social marketing clout loose on the post from the 17th and I’m inching towards 100 comments and links from Twitter on that post alone.

I’m listening to this guy.  You should too! His Twitter tactic is covered on the following page as well.  On this page you won’t see a fancy suit, a Beamer, or any tell tale signs of a slick marketing guru.  Chris is a straight up geek.  The gurus are months behind ripping him off and selling his ideas as their own.

This is a good thing for you.  The geeks are the ones to follow.  When a guy like Chris is the only one talking about something, you know the ideas and tactics are cutting edge.  No one, as yet, has stepped in with their expensive productions, huge staff, and million-dollar copywriters to claim the ideas and tactics as their own.

They will.  As a little side show, just watch what happens in the next few months.  It is always the same and it never changes.  Chris’ stuff will be co-opted.  It will be shined up and polished.  It will be packaged and prepped for the masses.  There will be launches, hype, and a type of circus atmosphere where “Google social experts” will simply sprout up out of nowhere like alley cats on trash night behind the restaurant.

But, you’re inside the restaurant enjoying your meal of traffic, rankings, and popularity.  They’ll be getting the leftovers.

If you’re the kind of person that needs proof, look at Twitterholic. http://twitterholic.com/lt_draper I started using this software on April 26. Less than a month later I’m up 8,285 followers and am now ranked #965 on all of Twitter.

Look at Chris’ Twitterholic stats: http://twitterholic.com/iamchrislang Guess when he started?

Unlike most slick marketers which fake snapshots, this is third party proof.

Dang Jack, you almost make it sound cool to be Chris Lang! (it is but don’t tell)

Seriously, that Twitter app is just plain popin off followers for me and you too it looks like.

People as well know as you may not need the help but this thing can transform the average guy on the street into a very hot Tweep! (all whitehat)

Did you notice that I am ranked at #7 for a “google friend connect” Google search?

Out ranking even TechCrunch! 100% whitehat, no work, no link building, just doing what I do, commenting, adding friends, joining high end sites and linking out to good content. The new Google is here, you just have to look.

When my PR2 blog can outrank TechCrunch and all the others with only 2K in incoming links there is something going on that Google is not telling us.

My mistake, telling you, they already told me….

WOW, Jack, I have now added over 4000 now after just 7 days and change.

Now, Digg has decided to remove shouts in favor of Tweets and and Facebook sharing.

This is a huge reason to be developing a Twitter account that dominates, the higher your numbers the more new Tweeps are apt to follow you.

There is a well know tactic, if you follow the big boys lots of others will follow you due to association. This proved true for me when Scoble, Brogan and StomperNet all followed me. I saw a few hundred followers a day come in each time.

All you have to do is become one of the big boys with large followings and you draw even more, viral marketing at it’s best. Looks like we got a home run with this app here Jack. I say this will become one of the top apps people will be using for a long time to come.

Jack, just crossed 5,200, how you doin?

At this rate I will out run the big boys fast.

Note guys, this account (twitter.com/lt_draper) was suspended due to what twitter calls “strange activity”. Any idea why he failed while others are still growing their list?

    • http://www.jackhumphrey.com/ Jack Humphrey

He probably tested something too hard.

Jack is right, I was pushing the envelope a bit too hard.

It’s a good example of why you don’t want to have just a single account and it’s better to keep a low profile about what you’re doing. Losing that account was only a 10% hit. We haven’t even detected a decrease in our twitter traffic as a result. I’ll be writing a blog post about it soon.

Don, thanks for taking the time to explain.
