That’s the big question on all my messenger services right now. And yes, Google’s Gmail is down right now. As far as I can tell, it has been down for at least an hour, maybe more.
This doesn’t happen often. Gmail being out of service is like catching a full lunar eclipse. It’s also stressful for people like us who use Gmail for everything. We tend to freak out without access to our mail, even for a few minutes.
The discussions going on my Skype and MSN messenger range from funny to sort of angry. Like electricity going off in your home, Gmail “power outages” give you some forced time to reflect on our reliance on the giant for our business communications.
It will be interesting to see the news coming out of the Googleplex about this outage. How does Gmail being down affect you?

It’s amazing that the matter cause such a fierce response. until now, it is still really hot on search engine.
the only way it effected me is that several on my team emailed me, letting me know that gmail was down. being that they use gmail for their email, i don’t know how they emailed me.
sometimes i use gmail for a cache of saved files, etc. (that have been sent to associates), so i guess that would have effected me if i was looking for anything at the time, but that what redundancy is all about. if you’re worried about backing things up, you could always use MOZY.COM, and for finding things on your desktop, just search or use google desktop, so there.
Hmm- mine never went down and it is my homepage- I am sure I am too dependent on Gmail-
The first time it happened to me, I freaked out. I thought Google might have been hit by cyber-terrorists. However, a quick search online turned up bloggers asking the same questions. These days, of course, I’d go to Twitter.
