Using trackbacks to get more links and traffic

Exactly how to use trackback posts to get links from other bloggers and sites that use trackbacks. Trackbacks are more powerful than commenting on someone’s blog because they use the title of the post you link to them with as the link back to your site.

Instead of signing a direct comment, which becomes the link to your site, with “Jack Humphrey,” a trackback link to your site will include your post title which should have keywords in it you are trying to score for in the engines.

So a post I make about “Blog Marketing” which includes links to other bloggers’ posts on the topic, this will return links to my blog marketing post with the anchor text: Blog Marketing. Very cool. Very effective.

Thanks for that video. I have received a few trackbacks, some spam and others okay. Never really knew exactly how to handle them or what they were until I viewed this video. Didn’t know if I had to reciprocate or just leave alone. Now have a much better understanding.

Can I make a small suggestion?

When an informative video is the main meat of your blog post, a transcript of some sort (or alternate media) offered for those that can’t view the video would be most generous and appreciated.

Not all of us are on a connection or device capable of displaying the video, but we would still like to have the info that is in it.

For example, I am currently accessing your site on an 11 year old PC…233mhz…64mb RAM…2mb of onboard graphics…on a 33.6k dialup connection. Under these conditions, video is impossible to view.

People like me are missing out on your content, and that really is a shame, because you are giving out info that could make a difference to people and enable them to build a site that can take them out of the poor-house and enable them to finally have a better PC and connection.

Don’t forget us, don’t shun us, and please don’t ignore us. We are part of your traffic, too.

the question i don’t understand is:

i request a trackback……it sends an email request the trackaback be approved.

whap happens if they approve the trackback. how does our sit einformation show up on their blog….if they don’t approve the request…what happens.

If they approve, the title of your post is the link and a snippet FROM your post is the comment.

If they don’t approve, nothing happens.

I noticed that you have a TON of keywords on your edit page. Do they have any real search engine value? Where are they seen by the public.

I know that keywordmetatags ain’t what they used to be, as far as Google is concerned. Are these the same thing?

No they are just my tags I’ve used before and that list helps me point and click on new posts to add tags faster than typing them out.

They don’t show to the search engines at all. Meta tags are still important to other search engines, but Google uses your on page content to rank your site.

This was very informative, but I have one question. Sometimes I reference sits that have trackback links or “links to this article,” but don’t provide a trackback url on the permalink. Examples:

Usually their system emails them that they have a new comment. When they check it out, they find it is actually a trackback and moderate it just like a comment. if you are on WordPress, maake sure in General Settings that WordPress “attempt to notify (ping) people you link to” or something like that. It’s just a checkbox. Then you can pretty much link to anyone and they’ll get the message just like they get new comments messages.
