Gravatars and MyBlogLog Pics In Your Comments

by Jack Humphrey on Nov 13

Recently I was admiring Andy Beard‘s use of MyBlogLog member profile pics in his comments and thought it really helped (literally) put a face on the people commenting on his blog.

It is a community builder for sure.

So I tracked down the WordPress plugin that makes it possible to put MyBlogLog or Gravatar.com pics next the commentator’s comments. If they don’t have a MyBlogLog account or a Gravatar.com account, they get an ugly witness protection shadow photo.

Just another reminder that if you are a blogger, or comment on blogs a lot, and you don’t have a MyBlogLog or Gravatar.com account, then you’re of no account! :)

Download “MyAvatars” WordPress plugin and put faces on your blog readers!

What a cool idea. I’m going to add that to my site asap.

You better add a pic to your MyBlogLog account too. I happen to know that you don’t look anything like your gravatar above!

Jack, my blog just got 143 visitors for the phrase “make money online tips” at Google instead of the normal 4-5 per day…what did you do?

I think it is vital for branding.

Whichever avatar you use, you should try to use it everywhere (though you can do a little testing), or at least keep it the same for each online persona you use.
Be careful on that last point if you use a pseudonym.

    David,

If I tell you I will have to e-ssassinate you! We featured you in a case study to the list.

By the way – what made you think “I” did something in the first place? Don’t all your favorite experts send you traffic?? :)

    Andy,

I could see how the pseudonym thing could get confusing. If I had an avatar for every voice in my head it would be a mess!

    Jack,

Great findings, I will really add that to my blog soonest.

    Thanks!!

Hey, thanks for your kind words! :)

Hey Jack! Very cool idea! I would rather see the person making the comment than the witness protection picture. It feels more personal.

I noticed this the other day when I posted on another blog that my mug shot was put up next to my comment – I wondered how this happened as it was the first time I was on that blog and never gave them my photo. Now – thanks to FTR I know how and have installed it on my blog. Thank you for solving the mystery
