Google is toying with Digg’s style of voting in their search results.
At the same time, it seems they are making a play for the whole darned site as well. TechCrunch reports:
“The companies are now in final negotiations according to our sources, although it could be a couple of weeks before it closes.”

Wow…Google is always doing something! They just opened their own affiliate network, now this!

I’d be surprised if this were ever integrated into anything other than personalized search, and even then, it would likely be only for the individual users serps, not the public at large.
The day someone could actually “vote down” their competitors website and have it actually impact their visibility will be a dark day indeed…

Jack, I wanted to let you know that the Google / Digg deal is off.
It looks like we better get ready for a Google social profile and see what happens to search results as time goes by. I already have lots of ideas about this. Does this mean I can start beating Saleem’s crappy two year old articles about how to get more Diggs?
Oh, yeah that’s right, while he is #2 on Digg I will have to suffer in silence.

You don’t think Google will use our votes in Websearch or how about blogsearch when they roll out a Google social?
Don’t you realize that 50 to 100 Diggs is all it takes for me to overtake most of my competitors in Google? I can take #1 on ANY niche term with 100+ Diggs. So, if Google is taking results from Digg and then using them as a quality indicator right now, how can you think that Google will not do it with their own social network that they have full control over?
If you use the right social sites, the social bookmark post will show up right along with your original blog post in results. Now I have canned two of my competitors. Next do a YouTube video and work my magic on that one. Now I will have three items in the top ten.
Everyting I am describing is whitehat and natural results to Google. Scott I am afraid you are way behind the times. No insult intended, no flame here, but I have to correct you less it rub off on others.

Google buying Digg. I can see a pattern with YouTube and Digg, paying the social media, it is a good idea, because Google could easily merge.
I am surprised to hear in the UK, that Google is the number one brand.
