I am approaching 1000 followers on twitter and am looking to get more of a response from my followers. At times it seems as though people just follow you only to build their list of followers regardless of what your Bio says or what theirs says. Are there any tools out there that filter this for you that you would recommend?

They’re both based off the same list, though the first one (autofollowbacks) has been adding more and now has nearly 400 people in there. Seems like a pretty good technique.

Geesh….is everyone on the twitter train to hell? I don’t have a problem with twitter…hell, I am on twitter….but these days everyone counts their followers as if it means something….
…trying to keep up with 1,000’s of twitter followers is absolutely ridiculous. I can barely keep up with a few hundred.

Leo – the way they’re doing it is with TweetDeck.com. Or tools like it. Trying to “keep up” isn’t the point – no wonder you’re out of breath! You can’t keep up – you go with the flow, see what’s happening when you log on, miss the rest, pop in, pop out, don’t stress about missing anything.
Thanks for the tips! Honestly, I’d prefer quality over quantity. I rather people that follow me do so because they are interested in what I have to say than having 1,000’s of followers that never read my Tweets. Twits?

What is the point of having so much followers? It’s not like you care about most of them. Somebody can post on Twitter that he or she has cancer, and I wouldn’t even know because the posts on the front page scrolls so fast. Too many followers are simply posting (or spamming) their links. I write personal direct messages to some followers, only to get a message back from them saying, “Hey check out my (link)”. Stop marketing yourself, and start networking.

I like the remarks Carrie Wilkerson had on gravatars as I always had the feeling that gravatars were not the way to go when it comes to communicating with people. In this instance I would rather see whom I am speaking to.
