FTR Your Link Building Partner?

by Jack Humphrey on Jul 20

Check out the new FTR Link Building Directory!
At first it might look like I’ve lost my marbles and gone back to the days of terrible, spammy reciprocal link directories.  I assure you, I have not.

I can and will reject most requests to be in this particular directory based on the quality and relevancy of the sites submitted.  Contrary to the old school of “hide-and-seek” link exchanges, where you set up a directory, ask for links, and do your damndest to hide your directory from your visitors, I want this directory to be an acual tool.

Not only that, but to show how much of a valuable resource I want it to be, I fully intend for people to begin linking to it as such.  That will take some seriously nice resources in the directory to pull off.
The goal here, for FTR, is to have a list of valuable marketing resources that my readers can actually use and actually thank me for providing.  This is the key to also having Google love such a directory in the way they do Dmoz and Best of the Web directories.

Human Edited

“Hello, I am the human that will be looking at your submission!”  If it sucks, don’t even expect a return email.  If you don’t have what it takes to make the directory I will let you know promptly by completely ignoring you.

So what does it take to make the Link Building Directory cut?

  • 1.  Relevant to FTR:  If I don’t have a category for your site, it means I don’t want to list your site.
  • 2.  Relevant to Readers:  Look around FTR and see if you can picture my readers being interested in your site, products, services or content.  If you can picture me sending you traffic that is pleased to visit your site, submit!
  • 3.  Use The Right Linking Tool:  Being in the Link Building Directory means you have to use the service I use to manage the yucky technical stuff.  Just click on “Exchange Links” on any page of the directory and they will show you what you need to do.
  • 4.  Just Be Cool:  I don’t care if your site is brand new, has no pagerank or search engine listings and currently has no visitors other than your family and friends.  If you have something of true value and your only reason for being low on traffic is you haven’t been “discovered” yet, let me help with that.  Again, I want quality.  You don’t have to be TechCrunch to make it into the directory – just relevant, interesting, or otherwise useful to my readers and their interests.

Don’t freak out that there are not many people in this directory.  I launched it 2 minutes ago.  There will never be thousands of sites in it because there aren’t that many sites in my niche that are interesting to me or my readers.

If you make the cut, consider yourself in good future company.  You won’t be surrounded by idiots using Frontpage generated “stank sites” to spam my directory!

Got it?  Now go and see if you have the right stuff for the FTR Link Building Directory

Do I have to go through the gotlinks system to trade a link with you?

For this particular directory, yes. I will be putting up different ways of linking to and from FTR in the coming months as I test different approaches for effectiveness.
