Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant Video!

by Jack Humphrey on Jan 28

I don’t care if you like Bush or not.  Politics aside, this video is destined to be a classic.  I’m still dumbfounded by the creativity.  Going to watch it again. Quality, creativity, and work like this is how a few videos go hyper-viral.

Category, in case you think I’ve lost my mind, is “Here Nor There.”

I don’t get it. Whats so brilliant about it? All I’m getting is annoyed by the piano sound :D

Huh?!

Really Jack? I thought it was clever, but the piano improv didn’t do a lot for me to add or take away from the video. Maybe I’m missing something…but that was 1,2, make that 3 “Brilliants” in front of this video.

Not so brilliant in my mind.

Brilliant in that the music mimics the poor rhythm of President’s voice… and reveals a paucity of thought process – but disappointing in partially blocking out the actual words. And what about respect for The Office of President? I’m from Western Australia and I have noticed what free speech can do to our ally – enuf said. Geoff D.

OK,I’ve lost you on this one. One clip of Bush stumbling and sounding stupid with background music that is way too loud. How is that brilliant and creative?

Lol – I guess I pushed the “taste” line. I have a music background and just thought the piano and words combo was cool. After I posted it I saw the same comments on the video page itself about the piano being too loud and drowning out the words. The creator came back and said he’d take it down a notch. I don’t know, maybe I was just in a weird mood. :)

Jack,
The piano was alittle loud
that said, you don’t have to sweat pushing the taste line.
at least the piano sound drowned out the poor quality speech.
on to bigger and better things like wall st. bonuses or the superbowl
thanks for the humor.

george

The music only 1/2 way kept to the beat of his speech. You probably were in a weird mood Jack. That’s ok, you are allowed.

Thanks for indulging me Lorraine! :)

Hey, I thought it was pretty cool! I could easily sit back in a bar and listen to that! Nice one Jack!

Well, Jack, no matter what everyone else thinks, I find this video to be totally amusing. I watched it last night when you tweeted about it and also enjoyed it a few times today. I just showed it to my husband, and while I’m cracking up he’s looking puzzled about the whole thing. Maybe the musical background does have something to do with it, at least it does in our case. Thanks for sharing it.

Fred Jan 29 at 4:16 pm

Hey Jack, you aren’t completely crazy (um. . .yeah!). I have a music background too and I thought it was kinda funny. It got annoying after the first 30 seconds, though.

Fred – I’ll take half a nod in favor any day from anyone taller than me! :)

Jack Humphrey Jan 29 at 5:51 pm

Carol – I thought it was just a video until I heard the piano going with him. Then the little “tickles” and flourishes he put behind the words were funny to me. Again, we might be the odd ones out. I’ve never been one to utter the phrase “Turn that piano down!”

Gary McElwain Jan 29 at 7:31 pm

Hey Jack

I thought the video was quite humorous. Brilliant might be pushing it a bit. You may need to take a break from the Barney videos so early in the morning. Although they do have similar head moves, I can see how you might of developed your interpretation.

I wonder what you’ll show us when your son is old enough to play guitar hero.

That’s it! My excuse is I don’t get out much and I DO watch a lot of Dora The Explorer, Diego, and Maggie and the Ferocious Beast! What do you expect my threshold for brilliant might be then? :)

Eric Looi Jan 29 at 8:56 pm

If the piano volume softer, it will be good! :) Plus some instruments will be better.

Lorraine Grula from video production Jan 30 at 5:19 am

Actually, the piano was great. It was W. that ought to be cut out.

I think it’s amazing that nobody here seems to notice that the piano isn’t just ‘tinkling’. It is actually harmonizing every single nuance of the speech. In fact the melody line is matching the speech and the piano harmony changes along with the melody line.

Jack Humphrey Feb 2 at 9:26 am

James – it’s ok man. If this were to truly be “brilliant,” it would have struck people that the guy on piano is doing something really much cooler than simply playing over Bush. I think it was meant for people like us rather than the gen pop, lol. Of course, I can hear a dog whistle, so I’m the odd one out. :) Not only did the piano player put the words to notes, but the notes he chose supported the confusion in Bush’s voice. Hard to explain – but the piano piece was as “sad” as the news conference. Most people don’t know a note on a piano, properly placed, can represent a question mark, or a funny statement.

Ahh, a little late to this party but glad I’m here to listen to the piano video of Bush. I didn’t get it at first. Had to listen to it twice while standing on my head & whistling. haha, just messing with ya, Jack. Keep it coming. :-)

I thought it was only a video but later i heard the piano. The piano was a total mess with the video.

Haha, it was really fantastic. What I did was I didn’t watch the video but instead I just closed my eyes and listened. You gotta give it a try, you’ll appreciate more how bush blended well with the piano.
