I agree with the title and the reason for it, but I don't think I would agree with the idea that ads is the best way to go for monetization. Alex – how so? With just a Twitter account and no site there’s no way an advertiser can get in front of the person’s sphere of influence unless they are paid just to tweet about the company?

Terry – That’s absolutely true. Most blogs suck at monetizing themselves. But it isn’t for lack of advertisers’ desire to pay to get in front of their crowd. Advertiser’s just want exposure and they’ll grab it up wherever they can get it if the audience and traffic is right. There’s nothing wrong with the ebook thing if it is part of a larger marketing and development plan that plans for more. You don’t see any ads on FTR because the optimal situation is to have your own products to sell along with some affiliate product income.

Most people don’t have products (yet) to sell with their blogs. Most sites on the web, period, don’t make much or any money. Most sites on the web suck. But we’re talking here about getting to a higher level than the majority of any web presence.
