If we weren’t, would car companies give us cars just so we’ll talk about them on our blogs? How about all the money companies throw at bloggers for advertising. (eMarketer predicts over $700 million by 2012).
Advertisers want our traffic more than any other kind of traffic on the web today. Because our traffic is living, breathing, devoted people who listen to what we say. There isn’t any other kind of traffic available on the web that is as high-quality, or high-converting as blog traffic.
For people who are still thinking you need a job to survive in this world (how’s that workin out for ya?) and that blogging is not a serious industry, think again.
For people who think their route to a wildly successful online business is through ebook sales, again, think about which you’d rather have. $400+ per day and growing, or a $30,000 launch day with nothing but another product to create at the end of the day?
Blogs are now the power center of the web.
Blogs are visited more than the search engines and all the social sites put together (another eMarketer study showed 54% of all the web’s traffic hits blogs.)
I don’t think the flavor of the day internet marketer gets this yet. And I fear that once it sinks in it will be too late for some to profit like all the established bloggers are going to in the months and years to come.
We control the eyeballs. We control wallets. Bloggers are the most powerful group on the web today. The entire web. Not just a niche.
Think about that. Then when the lights come on, do something about it!

Hey Jack,
It’s nice to hear that the way I’m headed is right on. Glad somebody
with some “punch” has said it out loud. We all need to listen to you
instead of CNN. There IS a future and we’re going to be part of it.
Thanks.

Jack,
When you say these things, it means so much more. I also have a friend who drives different vehicles each week by being a blogger. He loves it.
We’re in the age of Social media and anyone perceived as having a following will attract advertising money. A twitter account without a blog would also do the same…
All The Best
Well, I guess the only problem is I don’t see where very many are getting $400/day for ads. Unless I’m missing something, most blogs are lucky to get that much in a month.
So I guess I’ll do the ebook thing.

Terry – That’s absolutely true. Most blogs suck at monetizing themselves. But it isn’t for lack of advertisers’ desire to pay to get in front of their crowd. Advertiser’s just want exposure and they’ll grab it up wherever they can get it if the audience and traffic is right. There’s nothing wrong with the ebook thing if it is part of a larger marketing and development plan that plans for more. You don’t see any ads on FTR because the optimal situation is to have your own products to sell along with some affiliate product income.
Most people don’t have products (yet) to sell with their blogs. Most sites on the web, period, don’t make much or any money. Most sites on the web suck. But we’re talking here about getting to a higher level than the majority of any web presence.
Alex – how so? With just a Twitter account and no site there’s no way an advertiser can get in front of the person’s sphere of influence unless they are paid just to tweet about the company?
I agree with the title and the reason for it, but I don’t think I would agree with the idea that ads is the best way to go for monetization. Just because most people don’t have their own products to sell doesn’t mean they shouldn’t.
The key is to do BOTH.

I have just quit my job due to the success of my blog, but I am trying to get a few of my friends to get on board to be able to quit their jobs in a year or two.
I want to help them get established before we let the cat out of the bag
