by Jack Humphrey on Apr 6

rustymooreRusty Moore is a happy, independent, full time blogger today. Recently he put in his notice with his employer. I interviewed him about this big change and asked him exactly how he was able to make his blog his full-time “job.”

Topics include:

  • Pre sell pages
  • Affiliate marketing
  • Content development strategies
  • Blog design
  • Blog marketing

Listen to the interview and learn some good stuff to apply to your own blog!

    Jack,

I just realized that the B to C ratio mentioned in the audio interview was too low on my sites for conversion.

Rusty is giving me lots of ideas. Great audio interview. Best of luck to him.

@Tak – lol. Thought people might get a kick out of that. I need to work on my B/C ratio too. :)

    Hi Jack,
The interview with Rusty is excellent. You leisurely extracted a lot of key details that can easily help anyone like myself who is looking to successfully monetize their blog.

Your laid back style of interviewing is very refreshing and inspiring. You take away the “big shot” aura that most people try to associate themselves with when talking to someone who is successful.

As well I enjoy Rusty’s regular guy approach and from having a look at his site, it’s easy to see why he draws so much traffic.

All in all the content from the interview was great and I look forward to modeling my blog in some way after these strategies.

Thanks for sharing such incredibly valuable content,
    Nando

    Jack,

I realized that the reason my blog hasn’t gotten as much traffic was due to the low B to C ratio on my conversion.

    That was my missing link!

Definitely inspiring – for anyone in any niche, not just the fitness niche. I’ve got loads of ideas and I’ve been doing this for years. Awesome interview!

Thanks to Rusty for sharing his story and congratulations for discarding the shackles of paid labour.

It goes to show that it’s truly possible to make a good living from blogging although I hope we never get to the stage where everyone is blogging and nobody providing medical services, running hotels (God forbid … no booze!).

@Robinoz – I don’t think we have to worry about that for awhile. At least until we have robots doing all the non-blogging work for us, which should be any time now. :)

@Nando – Thanks! Although I don’t know any other way to “be” on interviews. I’d be in trouble if people demanded more formal interviewing style!

    Jack,

Thanks for making it an easy interview. Nothing like my first Interviews out of college! I remember applying for “Good Guys”, right out of college when I was 22 (the job market was tough back in the early 90′s).

Anyway…the guy interviewing me was trying to use some weird interview style where he was giving me objections about why I wouldn’t be good for his company. He also shot down my experience and went way overboard. He wanted me to sell myself on why he should hire me, but he was also trying to intimidate me. I called him an A**hole and walked out.

Hopefully people will take this “blog thing” seriously. I think it may catch on one of these days :)

    Thanks for teaching me!

Hey man – thanks for believing! Seems the work I do these days is more about getting people to believe, even with all the hard evidence all over the web, than it is about specific tactics. And thanks for being such an open book. Not many people want me “lifting up their skirts” for all the web to see. Not that you wear skirts. Well, I don’t know if you do or not… Look, the point is, you rock and don’t forget it!

It has been a big help for me to listen to your interview today Jack and Rusty, thanks!

An excellent reminder that “less can actually be more” for the enjoyment and profitability of the blogging that we do, not to mention simplifying things for the visitors to our sites as well.

Kinda puts the fun back into why we are doing this in the first place!

    Lead on guys!

Sometimes I really wish I could have done the “2-week notice good karma” thing when I quit my job… but looking back, I think I gained some self-respect by just leaving one day at lunch and never going back. The harder part is being sure you made the right decision the few weeks afterward. :)

    B2C ratio… hilarious.

Thanks again for the great interview, Jack. Very helpful.

So much to learn, digest and implement from the interview but looking at Rusty’s comment above shows an extra lesson,

“I called him an A**hole and walked out.”

    Courage!

It’s alaways interesting to hear someone making so much money themselves, without anyone’s help and the most amazing thing to make doing just what he likes. It’s really inspiring when such kind of job brings you income!
