eMarketer released a study of large retail operations who have Facebook accounts.

Social Media Usage Up Among Retailers

Social Media Usage Up Among Retailers

According to the article, “A September 2008 study by Rosetta (formerly Brulant) that focused on the top 100 online retailers in the US found that 59 had a fan page on Facebook, up from 30 in May 2008. Among the 29 who added Facebook pages since that time were Best Buy, Toys “R” Us, Kohl’s and Wal-Mart.”

You know what this means.  Every time you see the big boys doing what we’ve been doing for years, its time to learn new tricks that they won’t adopt for another 2 years.

It will be hard not to keep up in this racing game…! Twitter should be the next big thing to consider.

I’m a huge social media fan, I read everything I can find…books, forums, blogs, podcasts…you name it and I’ve got my head stuck in it.

The thing is…everything is changing so quickly, I bought and book recently from Amazon about Facebook marketing and it’s already out of date because Facebook has changed the layout since the book was written. Social media is very confusing, people don’t know where to begin or where to concentrate their time…it’s a real rollercoaster ride so hang on for your life!

Twitter doesn’t carry direct advertising but one or two retailers have already started using Twitter to alert affiliates to the latest offers and a few are using Twitter to drive traffic to their in-house blogs already…
