Avoiding Me-Too Blogging Syndrome

by Jack Humphrey on Jun 22

I was digging around YouTube and found this video by Maria Reyes-McDavis.  I can’t believe how good she was back in early 2008 now that I watch it again.  A pretty serious player then, Maria is a really serious marketing and social media player today.

Watch this video to learn how you can avoid being a “me too” blogger.  It’s cool to report on your industry.  But filter what you report to make sure it is always hyper-relevant to your readers.

That’s a cool video of showing how content is such an important core factor. She’s right, sometime when I go to a blog, there’s just too many widget, sometimes I feel I’m more interested in the widget more then the content, and hell I miss a good content…..

Good video. Give your audience what they want. High quality content about the topic they came to learn about.

I think I am gonna do what Maria said NOT to do: see some great content on someone else’s blog (like here :P ) and take it over to your own blog to repost… but be assured: I am sure my readers will be ready for this video message.

I recently told a “collegue” who said that he wanted more widgets up on his blog (kind of like my blog): I said DON’T DO IT. Keep it clean and simple. Relevant to your purpose (which is wine blogging). Mine is not wine blogging, but teaching those wine bloggers how they can start to network (hence all the blogrolls etc. — still, I need to vet and will vet over the next weeks).

Thanks Jack for digging Maria up and sharing her thoughts with us.

I like the video. Made sense not to use so many widgets, well non-relevant widgets anyway.

@Andy – Yeah, I used to take credit for “discovering” Maria, but I cant take credit for how much of a powerhouse she’s become. She’s definitely one to follow. I will recommend her until she starts killing me in the engines and then its on! :)

I agree with her. Keep topic of our blog in our niche is important. I do sometimes seen a blog that talking about anything. from restaurant into SEO…No matter if this is about personal blog.
