Article Syndication – Does it still work?

by Jack Humphrey on May 11

FTR Reader Question

“I am currently looking to launch my own blog and looking into the best practice advice to get more traffic.

I recently came across your website and understand you largely specialize in blogging but I was wondering what you thought about Article submission and if you thought they work and if it was a good way to build traffic?”

Answer:

Quality articles, syndicated to the right places, still work well.  But the content has to be really good, useful stuff.  Not rehashed or unoriginal content.

The two places we are working with are:

Submit Your Article and My Article Network

The Best Article Syndication Directory

If you want just one place above all other article sites to publish articles, the only big, high traffic article site I would set up a base on is EzineArticles.com.

Google Buzz

Heck yeah it still works! I’m #1 for my main keyword on one of my websites with over 39,000,000 results and the ONLY link building I did was submitting to EzineArticles. Crap articles don’t work. Really Good Quality Articles that people want to publish on their own site is what to shoot for.

I’ve only posted two articles so far on ezinearticles, but they are page one for important search terms, and the resource box of course points at my blog and my sales page.

Yes, it still works, however you might want to watch the time factor. I don’t spend as much time as I used to as there are more effective uses for it now. Ezinearticles is my #3 referrer of traffic to my main site. However, there is more method now than just slapping up an article. I started paying attention to what I was doing and raised my click through rate from 1-3% to 12-20%.

Also don’t forget that traffic is only 1 of several reasons to use article marketing:

1. Links – internal links to your site
2. Establish authority in your niche
3. Generate a body of content to repurpose (mp3’s, mini-courses, ebooks etc)
4. Traffic

It works. I wrote a lot many articles in the past and then stopped due to certain issues of time. With now those issues sorted I am going to redo it.

But as Jack highlighted, the game has changed but they are still relevant.
