A true reciprocal link, the kind that is frowned on or given little weight, is strictly page to page. "I link to your page and on that same page you link back to mine." However, 2 good sites in the same niche will have a hard time not linking to each other at some point and Google knows this. The direct recip link page to page is the worst kind and easily indicates to Google that a recip link arrangement has probably been made and there's only one reason for that in most cases - to manipulate SERPS.

Thanks for this clear post. I got a question. Word on the street is that reciprocal links are being frown on. In other words
blog webpage is not encouraged

Here is my question, is linking to a blog and a blog post the same. FOr instance

if i were to link in this fashion
website->blog home page
Blog post->website

Would that be reciprocal or an inbound and another outbound link for my blog. I have been trying to clarify this, but with no results. I would be greatful if you could help
thanks

I have to admit I have spend too much time on promoting one link to my site and to one page. I have been trying to diversify these as of late.

Great article! It's really important to have a mix of different types of links in every link building campaign. It will most definitely get the results one is looking for in the end. Thanks for sharing!
