Are you blogging for money or for fun?

by Jack Humphrey on Nov 25

Why Not Both?

Personally, with all the ways you can make money with a blog, I am in the “money” camp of bloggers. I know people like to blog just to blog. But then, they aren’t reading this right now because it isn’t important to them to become a high-traffic, popular blogger.

For those of you who do, however, want to make money with your blog, how is it going? Do you secretly sabotage your success by thinking, deep down, that you are somehow different or less capable than the bloggers who make a killing?

A-Listers Used to Be Nobodys

Would you believe that most big time A-List bloggers taught themselves everything they know today? That most of them didn’t know a blog from a forum when they started?

In fact, many of the now successful bloggers (who make 5 figures and above every month from their blogs) are a lot like you and me. The biggest difference is they never stopped trying until they found the magic formula for connecting with their readers and growing their presence on the web.

How Much Do Bloggers Make?

Here is a great, inspiring post about how much a handful of popular bloggers make today. There are many, many more that could have been highlighted here. A blogger that makes money blogging is no longer a weird, outlier, anomaly on the web.

Every day someone makes their first $1 with their blog. Every day thousands of bloggers across tons of different markets increase their monthly income.

This Can Be Easy, Or It Can Be Very Hard. At Least You Have A Choice!

To make sure you skip all the trial and error and simply learn the exact tactics that highly popular, professional bloggers implement to make all that green, get on our list for BlogSuccess by downloading and registering Blog Talk Monitor.

Blog Success is launching December 2nd (next Tuesday) and a new day will dawn on the web. A complete beginner to advanced professional blogging training site will be born. Bigger and far more in-depth than any other blogging training site on the web by a huge margin.

Talk to you more about Blog Success on Tuesday!

P.S. – this blog makes over $10,000 per month in advertising, affiliate revenue, and traffic sent to my products and services. Oh, and it’s FUN! So, best of both worlds!

    Jack,
Some interesting points made. Like most, I like to blog occasionally. But a little cash coming in doesn’t hurt does it?

Before I started following some of the guidance from ASC I didn’t really make much blogging. I think the one point I’m picking up from this great blogging resource is making a significant web presence takes time, real effort and dedication.

    Regards,
    George

Great post. For me, it is fun AND for money. I am a full-time blogger and make about $11K-$12K month at it. It is a lot of work, but I enjoy almost every moment of it. Yes, almost. :-) There are a few “gotta do’s” but, overall, its had to believe I get paid sometimes. :-)

Great post Jack and an incredible tool, the Blog Talk Monitor. It’s like taking candy from a baby. You guys make the best tools for helping bloggers automate our systems. I would need an entire staff if I didn’t have those tools.

I am waiting with great anticipation for Blog Success.

I agree doing both is great. I started out blogging for fun and to try and provide useful information to help others. Now I am trying to make some money to allow me to cut back and maybe eventually just work for myself.

Some people start blogs with the intention of generating income from them. There’s nothing wrong with that. The problem, however, is that most people approach blogging for income with the wrong mindset.

By itself a blog is not a business. A blog is merely a self-publishing tool. If you want to blog for income, then you’re really starting an online business, and that’s a whole different beast. A business is a for-profit venture, and if that’s what you’re looking to create, then you must learn to think like an entrepreneur, not just a blogger.

It is a very interesting topic. I think I’m blogging for both reasons. I’ve got two blog for making money via posting ads and another one just for fun of writing.
Due to the recession, there are fewer opportunities for bloggers to write online for extra income today. The payment for bloggers’ post has been greatly reduced by the advertisers.
But there are many signs of recovery these days. Let’s looking forward to the rise in post payment soon.

I am writing only to kill some spare time.
You obviously put a lot of work into that post and its very interesting to see the thought process that you went through to come up with those conclusion. Thanks for sharing your deep thoughts. I must admit that I think you nailed it on this one.

Personally speaking, I like sharing my personal travel experience as well as recommendation of good food on my blogs. It is of great fun. And i think some information I’ve offered could help people save some time and money planning for holidays.
