Many readers have a hard time keeping their blogs a secret. Sometimes you just want to fly around the web undetected. This is harder to do than most people think. You have to actually “work” at remaining undiscovered on the web these days.
Mr. Spock weighs in on the top 7 things you can do to perfect an invisibility cloak for your blog:
1. Make sure you don’t ping anyone when you post. WordPress 2.7 comes infected with a “pinging” service which gives away your current location in the web-space continuum every time you post to your blog. Turn off all pinging in order to fix this. And certainly do not load this list of places to ping into your system if you want to remain cloaked.
Nowhere am I so desperately needed as among a shipload of illogical humans.

2. There are people who are out to get you! You’re not being paranoid. Don’t believe me? Write something really outstanding and post it. The very moment someone reads it, they blab about it on their blog or on social sites. This totally blows your cover. The main key to proper blog cloaking is to write content that flies under the radar. Do not use the tips in this free webinar. And certainly do not subscribe to this man’s membership if you want to remain undetected on the web!
It is curious how often you humans manage to obtain that which you do not want.

3. Sometimes you are your own worst enemy. While I was writing a post offering tips on “How to construct a mnemonic circuit using stone knives and bearskins,” I sent it off to the ship’s doctor for review. An hour later my post shows up on Digg. Digg! This is one of the biggest leaks on the web for my writing. And all because I sent my post URL to a certain physician who has a bad habit of Digging everything I write. (You know who you are!)
4. It is difficult to remain cloaked if you insist on replying to visitors from other websites.
5. It is common knowledge that you cannot remain cloaked while using your blog’s tractor beam. Therefore it is unwise to post your RSS feed anywhere on the web.
6. It is illogical to guest post on someone’s blog while simultaneously seeking to remain unidentified on the web.
7. Personal threats often work well when visitors to your blog will not go away…
McCoy: Jim, when I suggested to Spock that it was time for his routine checkup, your logical, unemotional First Officer turned to me and said, “You will cease to pry into my personal matters, Doctor, or I shall certainly break your neck.”
Amok Time
