Mitz - I've found that it's not always the number of plugins, but WHAT plugins I run that affect load time and performance. Since anyone can develop plugins, we get a lot to choose from. At the same time, ANYONE can develop plugins regardless of their skill and attention to what their plugin will do to other plugins and Wordpress when it runs.

My rule now is if ANY plugin messes with my site in any negative way, I don't think twice about removing it - no matter how cool it is on paper. That said, 10-15 plugins seems to be standard for most blogs I work with and from what I hear from the bloggers we work with. They just have to be well-written and play nice with each other and Wordpress!

Does anyone know how many plugins a Wordpress website should have? Do they effect the operation of your website? I usually have about 10 -15 installed on each website.
.-= Mitz´s last blog ..Researching a niche topic for your new Wordpress website business =-.

Hi Jack,
I really appreciate you giving out a list the plugins that you use on this site. I'm using most of them.

Are you using a plugin to make your special introductory page appear to first time visitors? That's an awesome page and very informative.

I wouldn't have noticed it, but I showed a friend your site (On their computer) as an example of a great site and noticed the special page.

Thanks again for divulging your list of plugins.

@Scott - You missed one of my plugins above - Wishlist - which does everything from make your dinner to watching chick flicks with your wife or girlfriend for you. Pretty darned good membership script for Wordpress too.

@Martin - LMAO! That's a good question! Ummm... I can't even come up with a good B.S. answer to that. Guess I can kill another plugin. :) Yep i need to check the Thesis open hook out - its installed just not activated. I usually go whining to my tech guy when I need to modify that stuff. He probly wishes I'd just activate the damned thing and do it myself. Thanks for stopping by!

Jack, hi,

Many thanks for the shout out!

That's a great plugin list you've got, but a quick question: why do you use both Optimal Title and All-in-one-SEO pack, given that you can manage blog, post and page titles with the All-in-one..?

One other plugin that I didn't mention in that list and which is indispensible if you're using Thesis (which I do) is the Thesis OpenHook plugin written by Rick Beckman.

It makes using hooks a doddle which, for non techy people like me, enables us to use the power of Thesis much more easily.

Cheers,

Martin.
