Desktop will become obsolete someday but not in 10 years. It will be a while yet. Baby Boomers are still working on how to use the desktop and much less they are not use to laptops. I like using my iPhone myself. It goes with me anywhere.

10 billion Tweets...that's a great number mate. :)
I think Google kinda rushes with the statement that desktop PCs will become irrelevant, that's really not going to happen in 10 years either.

I don't think desktops will become irrelevant, I simply think they will evolve. People will have a multi-media monitor in their living rooms where they will watch TV, surf the 'net, operate home businesses etc... with wireless keyboards.

I still call it a desktop computer, but maybe "multi-media" server would be more appropriate? Irrelevant...uhhh, no.

10 billion tweets? Wow. I never really got into the whole Twitter craze, just because I didn't see the value in sending out these little tweets. People keep telling me how great it is for networking and business marketing, but I still think it's just a fad. Facebook on the other hand is a different story...

I agree that it will take a long time for desktops to be obsolete, but this is kind of the direction things are heading. However, as this is also the direction Google wants things to head, their statement isn't too surprising. The Cloud Computing Model will likely take off, but it will be a long time before it replaces traditional computers...
